8 $
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Carignan
Description
Reviewed by Noel Wehbe
Winery & Terroir:
Château Musar is based in Ghazir, north of Beirut, while its red wine is made from old-vine grapes grown in the Bekaa Valley, rooted in gravelly, limestone and stony soils at roughly 1,000 m altitude. Long, hot days followed by cool mountain nights shape grapes of remarkable concentration and natural freshness. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan is vinified with minimal intervention and aged for years before release, giving Musar its legendary complexity and unmistakable Lebanese identity.
Tasting Note :
Color: Deep garnet with subtle brick nuances that hint at maturity.
Nose: A rich mosaic of red cherry, plum, dried figs, warm spices, cedar, leather, sweet earth and Musar’s signature oxidative touch.
Palate: Full-bodied, layered, and evolving. Silky tannins carry flavors of red fruit, tobacco, spice, balsamic notes, and savory undertones. Long, harmonious, and deeply characterful. Best Pairing: The ultimate match is slow-braised lamb shoulder with rosemary and garlic—a pairing that mirrors Musar’s warm, earthy, Mediterranean soul. It’s also exceptional with duck breast with cherry glaze, game (venison, wild boar) and aged cheeses like Comté 36 months or Mimolette Extra-vieille, which elevates its complexity and tertiary Aromas.
